Printable Islands puzzles
Islands is a shading puzzle. Grow each numbered island to its size, keep islands from sharing an edge, and shade a connected sea with no 2x2 pools.
Shading land and sea
- Shade sea cells and leave land cells white.
- Put a small dot on land that has been confirmed but is not numbered.
- Check that no 2x2 area becomes fully sea as the sea grows.
How to play
Shade sea cells so each number marks an island of that many land cells. Islands never share an edge, the sea stays connected, and sea never forms a 2x2 block.

Checking the sea
Before students compare answers, ask them to trace the sea as one connected area and confirm that no 2x2 area is fully sea. Keep the answer key separate. More Islands boards are available at LoopAndGrid.com after class.
